Last weekend a group of friends and I had a run in with the owner of a bar that has an outdoor pool area. One of my friends is of Indian ethnicity, and the owner treated him very poorly. Then, when I went up to him, I was "guilty" by association with the guy. After he told me I'd never be allowed through the gate, I told him if he's ever in McKinney, he won't be welcome at my door either.

I suppose that sort of thing is important to some people, but when you're a married guy who lives in the suburbs, that exclusive crap just seems silly.
Oh come on, it's wrong but it's also very funny. Admit it.

I had lunch at an excellent restaurant in downtown a while ago with a very snooty Russian lady and said, well it ain't Moscow but what do you think of Dallas.

She looked around and thought for a moment, and then said offhandedly "Well, they're trying I guess. But it is...terribly provincial...".

Sorry Stephen Pyles.

This thread is full of comedy.

The suburbs of Dallas are suburban-minded. Dallas is not.

I would say your perspective is like basing an opinion of Manhattan on what you've seen on Staten Island, except that Manhattan and Staten Island are actually two boroughs of the same city.

Everyone in Texas is a member of a minority group. "Minority" does not mean "non-White".

Whites are about a third of the population of Dallas (and less than 45% of the population of Texas) and are therefore a minority just like everybody else.

Totally true of most places. I am from a town of about 55000, and the most pretentious women there are those who moved from one of the outlying, smaller towns. Too bad people can't just be comfortable in their own skin wherever they are.

I don't know if "funny" is the word. I'd say "sad" more than anything. The funny part to ME was that, with all the bars and clubs in Dallas, and the amount of time (maybe 1 night a month, if that) I'm actually in Dallas these days... It would literally be years before I would head back to that particular bar whether I was a "member" or not. At that rate, the bar will probably be closed down or bought out by then. So really, it didn't matter to me one bit, but to the people who frequent those places often, I guess it must be just devastating.

Pretty funny that there are so many Nobel Peace Price winners that studied in Texas... I guess they did not want to meet you!
This may be true!
Note, I have never said I did not like texans nor have I met all texans just my perception of those I have.

Donewithdallas true I am bred from the Superior North.

Us Texans are proud of it and we can point out a northerner from a mile away.

My dad was born and raised in Long Island and my mom was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama so I have the Yankee temper/attitude but the southern state of mind.

My problem with this thread is people are generalizing everyone and categorizing every Texan as one. Incorrect. We are all different. Meet us ALL then say we're all hicks, gun totin' conservative republicans, pretentious (go to LA first then we can talk), have attitudes, whatever. Until then, us Texans (both born and bred and honorary Texans) are just like every other city and state... only better

The guys on Cedar Springs Rd I found to be very rude and stuck up, however the pure awesomeness and friendliness of most other people made my trips well worth it!

Drama is a way of life around Cedar Springs. I wouldn't use it as a barometer for the entire city by any measure. Generally, if you aren't dissing someone every eight seconds, something must be wrong with you.

Sorry Stephen Pyles.
The Russian lady sounds like she has a highly developed intuitive thought pattern.
