Keep Dallas Pretenious is A JOKE....get it???? We love those shirts...'cuz, guess what?...most of us are not pretenious. GET IT??? Harr-Harr...
And...I'll fess-up. I used to be one of those "ladies" who would bark at you for holding the door open, for trying to carry my heavy bag, etc. It was the Yankee in me; it's cultural. Now I can accept it...it's a gift, I accept and I say thank you and look you in the eye - and I mean it.

I apologize for ruffling feathers here. Maybe I was a little too harsh or "rude" myself. I can appreciate people being proud of where they live and I do admire that. Maybe I expect Dallas to be something it's not. Maybe its just the area Im in when I have to visit. Its called the Uptown district I believe (usually at the Hotel ZaZa which is by all means fantastic). It's just my impression that the people in general are not friendly and they are so for no reason, not that there is ever a reason in my book.

... and one more thing, the Texans here seem to like trashing LA a lot. I find LA to be more welcoming than Dallas to be honest.

If you're in a tourist/business traveler area, staying at an upscale hotel, perhaps most of the rude folks you encounter are from somewhere else as well? Just yesterday, my husband and I were have a chat here in SoCal with an older couple whose son lives in Firewheel (shout out to momof2dfw!) and they could not stop gushing...*absolutely gushing*...about how friendly and fantastic all the people are they've met in Texas. The gentleman used to travel a lot for work and so he's been to Houston and San Antonio many times for work as well, and across the board, the people of Texas are the most courteous, welcoming people he's ever met. His wife, a native Californian, would only consider moving out of CA if they were to go to TX and it's because of nothing (for her) other than the fantastic people and experiences she's had. Maybe you should find a new place to hang out, wolfpack .

I travel to Orange County about one week a month. The people I know in California are just as nice as the people I know in Texas. I do agree there is too much bashing of California. I think people make that same old mistake in assuming everyone is like to caricatures they see on TV or hear about on the news. I used to say that I would never live where the ground shook, but with all the little quakes around here lately, i guess that doesn't hold water anymore.
I don't hold anyones opinion against them as long as they realize that no two people are ever the same let alone a whole city or state. I have had bad experiences when traveling but I just chalk it up to those particular individuals. It can be hard to travel and spend time somewhere that you don't know anyone.
Hopefully your next experience here will be more positive and friendly.

You should try hanging out at the Ritz - the Rattlesnake Bar at Fearings. It's brutal, but I go there for pure entertainment...all that preteniousness is kinda hilarious. And the margaritas are killer.

I've been to Dallas many times over the years and I've never noticed the people there being overly pretentious or rude. Are there some of these people in Dallas? Of course there are. But like someone said above, you can always find pretentious and rude people anywhere. IMO, Dallas has no more or less of these people than anyplace else. Frankly, most of the rude and pretentious people I've met in various Texas cities have been from other states.
