Ole Olesen is on a distinguished road
Default Texas vacation...Please help...:-)

Texans...

Please help us out:

We are family of five, from Norway.
I just finished my studies and would like to bring my family on a vacation before I start to work.

Kids age 6, 4 and 1 years old.

We are looking to spend the summer in Texas. We would love to rent a house on a ranch, or in a small town. Not city life. :-)

It must be a safe place in regards to crime. Besides nature we love 4-wheelers, horseback riding, swimming and hiking.

Any suggestions for us?

Best Regards

Ivar Skiaker

check VRBO.com and Craig's List for TX metros for the vacation rentals or real estate rentals
look for towns outside the larger one--look for homes with some acreage
say Fredericksberg or Kerrville vs San Antonio
check out the smaller towns west of Austin like Mason
or those on the Highland Lakes chain like Marble Falls
or try around New Braunfels or San Marcos on I-35 N of San Antonio
or Granbury, Glen Rose, Weatherford, Stephenville west of Ft Worth

but do you understand what you might be getting involved in
some of these areas can be pretty isolated

One quick piece of advice - if at all possible, make sure wherever you stay with 3 kids for a Texas summer has a pool. We'd never make it through summer without one, it's ungodly hot here! The public pools can be really crowded and not that fun.

I'd focus on Central Texas or East Texas, and make sure that you were close in to town. You also might be able to get a lake house if you choose - something to think about.

agree that pool would be nice touch if it is in good shape and affordable...some people are renting homes because they can't sell them and pools might not be in best condition
