Default Dallas transplants: What was YOUR degree in?

When you moved to Dallas, or graduated and started a job search in Dallas: What was your degree field?

I'm a young accountant (with two years of experience) looking to move to Dallas this summer. I was curious about which fields people have had success in. I've been searching Monster and CarreerBuilder for weeks now and Dallas seems like a fairly promissing job market. Am I correct in thinking this, or should I expect to wait tables for my first few months in Dallas?

Business & Economics/Finance.

However I would be highly encouraged if I were a young accountant as well. Me, personally I could not stand and to this day find it highly tedious, but I encourage all of my nieces & nephews as well as the children of friends who are getting ready to go to college. Accounting is what you need to study. Law/Med school/Dentist...Accounting. It's highly portable, much more of a door opener into business (entry & basic finance) jobs, you can get a job w/ the State pretty quickly or a regulatory industry position.

And if you put in the hours necessary and are a crack Accountant, you can move up quickly.

Computer Science. Been here 10 years and it's only let me down once - in 2003 after I'd spent 3 years doing specialized, non-mainstream development. I spent a year doing tech support and re-training myself and I've been gainfully employed since.

Bachelors in Business Management.

I'm en route to Dallas. I will be there at the end of July. I looked for 6 months before I got a job, but it was more related to my work experience, insurance, than my education. Nonetheless, I'm thrilled to have a job lined up for me when I get there.

Be persistant. I think that accounting would be a good field for a young graduate, I'm assuming one that is single or with few obligations, to start in. Like someone above posted, it is a portable skill that you could apply in many different industries. DFW is huge. With hard work and persistance, you should be able to land a decent job, or one with nice potential in the accounting field.

So, are you implying that native Dallasites don't have degrees, let alone fancy ones?
