None of those would work at all for the OP.
Aubrey is about the only one left that has SOME "rural" feel to it. The others are now total suburb and she won't be able to find ANYTHING in her price range.

Tell him to stick to the Richardson area.

Then he is close to LBJ which can get him right out to I-30, I-20 and Hwy 80 in no time. Your price range based on what your paying now is going to be the kicker. I don't even know of anything out by our lakehouse on Tawakoni for that.

Yes, crossing Dallas could be a PITA. Our lakehouse is on Tawakoni and for us from Garland we can be there in an hour. Those coming from the Carrollton area take about 30 minutes longer (better now that 190 is open all the way to I-35).

You can try Royse City and the unincorporated areas around Royse City & Fate. Out towards Terrell might be a good place to look as well. Forney is growing a LOT and it is more subdivisions now than acreage lots. Crandall, Kaufman, Corsicana, Ennis all might be a good place to see what is out there.

Look the the East and SouthEast of Dallas. Just about anywhere will be affordable and within an hour's drive.
