Where to rent? Will be working at 635/75
I am in mid-50's and will be leaving West Palm Beach, FL where I've lived for the past 30 years to take a job on the NW corner where 635 and 75 cross. I'm an attorney and will be making a comfortable living. I want to rent for now and drive less 1/2 hour to work. Any advice? Thanks.

Check out google maps zip code 75219. Anything on the west side of US 75, south from Mockingbird to downtown. This will put you counter to rush hour traffic flow (as if that mattered to attorneys).
From Mockingbird to Knox you'll be in the SMU area, south of that from Knox to the cemeteries is Uptown and south of that on to downtown is State/Thomas. Plenty of professionals, loaded with rentals.
Or north to something Prestonish. I typically refer to most anything north of Hwy 12 (NW Hwy) as Oklahoma border.
There's an entire zip code of rentals on the east side of US75, mostly avoidable until you get down to the 'M Streets' and Lakewood.
There's some cool lofts in downtown, DallasLofts dot com, me thinks.

There are nice apartment complexes at 635/75 - southwest corner near Medical City.

What type of rental are you looking for - apartment, condo, townhome, single family home?

BigG ask the right question. Hard to give advice without knowing what type rental you want and what kind of price range your looking at.

Right now I'm just looking for nice 1 bedroom until I can sell me current home in FL (no mortgage and even with depressed market should sell in high $300's) and then buy. Figure I need place for 6 months - 1 year.
I'd like some place where easy to mingle and meet people as I won't know anyone except others at firm I'm going to work for. I have to be at work at 8 a.m., so morning traffic is important. Used to being at work 8:30 here, but 40 min drive. So, if I can keep drive down would be about the same. Typically work to 6:30-7 p.m. so I'm guessing rush hour over by then on way home.

The Village Apartments would be a good fit. It is a very nice, new apartment development with many different complexes. Definitely a great place to meet people. There are one bedroom apartments available. You would be close to pretty much everything. They are south of the High Five(635/75), so you would have a quick commute to work, as you would be going against traffic.

Well if your living in a home now you will have a house full of furnishings so do you plan on using them or just renting an apartment?
Apartments are a dime a dozen but a nice home with extra rooms and in a nice neighborhood even if it’s a rental makes you look more stable to a new law firm (I would think)
I know near Plano road at Renner, or in Canyon Creek you can *rent* a nice 4 bedroom home with two car garages with lots of storage room for around $1,500.00 a month with a year lease. This puts you near central and Bush Freeway; also if you’re on the Plano Road side you have access to the DART rail station. These provide you with lots of extra options as well as if you drive to work its maybe 20 minutes.
These are more of a family area but it’s a great location

The Bush is not a freeway....it is a tolled Turnpike. And yes, that is a really nice area to live in!

Paying that much money to live by yourself for a short period of time makes no sense (unless there's plenty of money available to toss around). I really don't think the firm will care, and if they did, I would question wanting to work for someone who takes micro-management to a new level.
