We want to buy on a lake preferably in the Rockwall area. Any suggestions?

You can't go wrong with Rockwall on the water. Are you looking to buy a home or a lot? Price range?

That would be Lake Ray Hubbard. You could buy lakefront in Rockwall, Heath, Garland or Rowlett. All now allow boathouses to be built if you rent the take line back from the city.
What is your budget?

Look into Chandlers Landing on Lake Ray Hubbard in Rockwall. It is a very nice gated community. There is not a whole lot of homes for sale in there, so I would check into it right away if you are interested in this community.

It's my understanding that lake properties around Lake Ray Hubbard go pretty quickly when the sale sign goes up. Just be ready when the right property comes up.

That is what I have been told as well. I believe that in Chandlers Landing alone, there is only like 5 properties available.

Depending where on the Ray Hubbard, some areas have very very shallow water and putting a boat dock would require a lot more money and the shoreline looks like a swamp.
A few homes on the water have been on the market for almost a year. So again, depending where. If someone is looking for waterfront for the view only vs. having lake access. Price is key.

and just consider how busy the lake is
Lake Lewisville from what I understand is one of the busiest lakes in this part of TX--really crowded during the weekends and lots of boaters that don't observe the rules--also lots of drinking boaters...
I know that most people like to have a good time when they are on their boats--but too much is not a good thing...
unfortunately there are not enough lake police to really put the fear of over-doing it into some people...
I don't how Lake Ray Hubbard is for useage--
plenty of people use the lake that don't live on it
how is Lake Ray Hubbard for water level
rain has been pretty good this summer so think levels are up--but it is not constant level lake and the water line (shallow/deep) has lot to do with the esthetics of a lot when the drought is in full force...

Agree on Lake Lewisville with the drinking thing. I live about 3 miles from the Lake and don't feel comfortable going out on it because of that. On one part of the lake, there is a notorious "party cove", where young singles (for the most part), hang out and drink til they drop - then drive their boats back to the dock. I know drunk boaters are a risk wherever you go, Lake Lewisville just seems notorious for it.

Lake Ray Hubbard can be "busy" but not NEAR what Lewisville gets. This past week on Thursday evening there were a TON of boats on it all going over to The Harbor in Rockwall. I'm guessing for a concert and fireworks as there were people parked in cars as well EVERYWHERE! Hubbard can be pretty calm and not as crowded as most would think.
As for the lake level of Lake Ray Hubbard, it is a constant level lake. There is a new HUGE pipeline that comes from Lake Tawakoni to Hubbard to make sure of it. They would drain Tawakoni to make sure Hubbard never loses water and have come pretty darn near close to doing that a few years ago. When every single boat ramp was closed on Tawakoni and you could walk a good 200' out from where the shoreline SHOULD be till you even sniffed water and Hubbard has every ramp open and hardly down at all........ it is a shame, really. Hubbard is owned by the City of Dallas and has to have the constant level for the power plant that is on it.
