Rural Dallas, at all wooded?
Hi everybody, we may be relocating to Dallas in the near future. Can anyone tell me of an area that is heavily wooded with small acreage no more then 45 mins. from Irving? The east Texas Piny Woods are beautiful but unfortunately to far. Yet the acreage I've looked at in Greenville or Kemp is all open land with very few trees on it. I've only seen pics of it on the computer so not sure if that's all there is. Is anyone familiar with the area around Greenville or Kemp, or Gun Barrell or somewherea around there, like Kaufman? Not sure if we would build or buy an existing home.
I hope this doesn't offend people in Dallas, I'm really not trying to do that, but is there anything that looks like the Magnolia/Tomball area near Houston? I'm relocating from north Houston. To anyone caught up in the throes of the Houston/Dallas rivalry. I'm not saying Houston is better (especially if I'm going to be living in Dallas). That would be obnoxious. Anyway, I was born in Dallas so although I don't remember much, I have to love it, being my birth place and all. But I do love the woodsiness of N. Houston especially. Cypress on up to Spring, the Woodlands, Lake Conroe and the Sam Houston National Forest is beautiful and I'll miss it.
I would appreciate any info you can provide.

Yes! We found such a place only 15 minutes from Irving / Las Colinas. It's in Flower Mound, near Grapevine Lake. Look at the neighborhoods that border the lake. Our neighborhood looks like it's from the East Coast because of all the trees.
And, the protective future mother that I am, always check the sex offender registry before you buy a house anywhere.

Greenville is going to be a LOT longer than a 45 minute commute to Irving. BTW, yes there are TONS of areas around Greenville that are heavily wooded. Most of the parcels for sale are probably not as wooded as those w/ the heavy woods may not be selling. Same w/ Kemp and Gun Barrell City. Those are going to be a heck of a commute (over an hour) and do have many thick woods.
If your wanting acreage and a rural setting your not going to find it in the suburbs that have been mentioned like Frisco. Nor are you going to find a lot w/ lots of trees in those areas. Shady Shores is one area on the north side of Lewisville Lake that is still rural feeling in that they have not been hit w/ tons of cookie cutter tract developments. Finding the woods though will be tougher around that area. You might also try going out towards Justin and on into the lower half of Wise County. You will have no problem at all finding rural areas w/ trees. You won't find the pine trees like in Houston or over on the eastern side of Dallas but you can find lots/parcels of acreage with trees and some rolling hills. Decatur is the county seat of Wise County.

Thank you Pinkrattie and momof3dfw...this is very helpful. These boards are a wealth of information and I so appreciate you replying. Not even sure if hubby is getting transferred yet but it's good to be able to research in advance if we do end up in Dallas.

Not sure this type of area exist. There are some really nice lots out in Parker, Fairview, etc., but I'm not sure there are any that are wooded. I know there is also El Dorado in Mckinney, which has lots with alot of trees and such, but no real acreage. That was also a misconception I had when I moved out here, that land was cheap and you could buy a nice home on 2 acres for 350k. Not really the case in most areas. Same housing density here as in most major US cities.
