What to do in Garland
We are planning to take the kids to a play at Plaza Theatre in Garland.
I am not very familiar with that area (I think it's downtown), is there anything else interesting to see or do? Unique shops, anything like that?
Maybe we could grab a bite to eat somewhere in the area, something kid friendly and hopefully not a chain restaurant.

There's not a lot else to do right there in downtown. But Dos Banderas is pretty good Mexican. If it's a matinee, then Hubbard's Cupboard is the must do. There's also an Italian place but I've never tried it.

Thank you. I should have mentioned that we're probably the only people around this area who are not fans of Mexican food. I know, I know...

The Pocket Sandwich is right across from the Plaza Theater. They have homemade custard (ice cream) that is pretty darn good. Dos Banderas is good but if you don't like Tex-Mex......... then skip it. Hubbards is decent (better for breakfast ) and their homemade pies are SUPER! I'd go for the custard though in this heat. Not much for shops down there now but some furniture stores and such (Baker's is gone, ) . There is a resale shop on Main right around the corner from the square across from Dos Banderas but I have not been in there in awhile (furniture and knick-knacks mostly). Roach Feed & Seed can be fun if they have any bunnies and chicks in stock. Suzy's Quilt shop is on the square but I don't know their hours for the weekend. After the play you can grab some custard and head up to Firewheel Town Center for the free concert and movie in the park they have every Saturday night in the summer. Don't know what is on for tonight though. Take the lawn chairs or a blanket.

Now, if you don't need to eat right there, I recommend heading up N. Garland Ave to Beltline and checking out Babe's Chicken Dinner House. Can't miss it. It's got a giant zebra stripped utility truck out front. Kid friendly (they do the Hokey Pokey and get the kids to join them), plenty lively and incredibly tasty.

Thank you, looks like I can plan the whole evening after all!
I noticed there are many Vietnamese places in the area, maybe we'll give one a try. The Feed & Seed store might be great if it's still open. I'm into gardening and the kids love animals. I also love thrift stores, consignment stores, junk stores... any stores!
I didn't know there was so much going on at Firewheel, we'll go there after the show. Thank you so much for the info!

I have seen Babes and I can't understand why there is a line to get into that place. I never understood the fried chicken thing. I had people telling me to go try it. I just can't bring myself to eat something so greasy and unhealthy, nor would I let my kids eat that.

I have to admit I'll eat fried chicken as I love it so, but I only do it about once or twice a year. Where I work, someone will bring it to our luncheons and that's when I'm bad, so bad.
Keep up the good work with eating healthy foods and feeding your kids that way. It's truly the way to prevent so many illnesses. With all the warnings about obesity, diabetes, and such, you'd think people would pay more attention. I guess it's kind of like the person who keeps on smoking in spite of the health risks involved.
