Twenty one years ago, there was a bit of snow and ice. Started Thanksgiving Day. Hung around through the weekend. I remember because I got married that weekend, and family had problems getting into town with all of the frozen precip. Some of the reception photos show ice & snow on the roof and eaves.

If you Google, apparently it was the first recorded snow on a Dallas Thanksgiving and it impacted the Cowboys/Dolphins game.

See my previous post on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1993 - considerable snow and sleet - google "Dallas snow Thanksgiving 1993", many links and images for it... most entertaining Cowboys game ever dubbed the Sleet bowl!

At that time, I was living in the Longview area. The almanac shows there was some brief freezing rain, but not the hours of frozen precipitation that there was in Dallas, so I personally probably didn't see any snow that day. However, I'm looking at that game on Youtube and that does look like a pretty amazing game. We'd be lucky to see that again with rising temperatures.

Here is the National Weather Service climate data for early November comparing this year's temperatures/rainfall to the normals:

November 1st-17th
Normal High Temperature: 69.7
Average High Temperature: 59.1
Departure from Normal: -10.6

Normal Low Temperature: 48.8
Average Low Temperature: 39.4
Departure from Normal: -9.4

Normal Rainfall: 1.72 inches
November 2014 Rainfall: 1.45 inches
Departure from Normal: -0.27 inches

November Average Temperature Extremes - NWS Dallas/Ft. Worth

The lowest maximum (high) temperature for the month of November is 57.9, which occured in 2000. To rank in the top 10, the 2014 maximum temperature has to stay at or below 61.1.

The lowest minimum (low) temperature for the month of November is 37.9, which occurred in 1959. The 2014 minimum temperature must remain at 41.2 or lower to rank in the top 10.

The monthly precipitation records aren't likely to be challenged unless we receive a lot of rain (4.39 inches+) in the latter half of November. Nearly 8 inches of rain fell in 1918 and the other wettest years had totals over 5.84 inches.

Thanks! Looks like there is a fair chance that this November would wind up in the top ten coldest. Too bad on the rainfall amounts. With the number of cloudy days we have had, I wish we would have gotten rain to bump this number up.

Default Winter Storm Watch

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for most of the DFW area and will go into effect Sunday evening through Monday afternoon. Looks to be a mainly sleet event at the moment.

It's about time we get some winter weather. I was thinking this was going to be the most boring winter ever.

I was hoping for a little snow this season.. but doesn't seem that's going to happen. Saw they are calling for some winter weather tomorrow, but I'm not very optimistic. I'm a little jealous of all the snow that the East Coast is getting........ might ship myself back to DC till April

I'm dreading Monday.

Last ice storm we had, my power was out for two days. It sucked.
