Check out Startex Power . They usually have the lowest rates, whether it's month-to-month or fixed rates for 12, 24 or 36 months. Startex Power is the electric provider I use and their customer service and billing options are extremely good. I highly suggest them...

8.12 Garland Power & Light.

I can't change. We live in an area where the city owns the power plant. I'm happy with them so far and have always had pretty low electric bills considering.

8.12 would ROCK! Our latest (and LARGEST ever) bill would be a whopping $126.92.

We're at 13.5, but had locked in for 12 months about 10 months ago when that was a decent rate... Can't wait to get a new plan! Natural gas prices continue to stay down, which plays a large role in energy prices in our area. I saw on StarTex's web site they have a 3-year plan at 11.5, which might prove to be a good rate for that time-frame.

robynintexas is on a distinguished road
Ahhhh, this is scaring me. I'm moving soon ... currently paying .0675 and I have a surcharge/higher rates because I've chose to be 100% powered by wind. Sounds like my utility bill is fixin' to rise.

Thanks for the names - we have city owned utility here so I'm not accustomed to shopping for electricity.

I pay 11.00 with Reliant Energy. Last summer I signed up for 15.00 because my old contract had expired and they billed me for 22.00. It cost me $150 to get out of my contract but in the long run it was worth it.

sometimes when peak rates last for a while you will pay more than your advertised/contract rate--
that is also in your contract--
it comes as a fee adjustment--not higher rate per se
but it is the utility getting even for giving you a lower rate when they are paying higher to get energy off the big grid

there are not many electric co-ops around here in Metroplex--Garland technically is probably one and there is one on west/north side of Keller

make sure if you are renting an apt that you have the right to choose your own individual electric provider instead of having the apt complex BE your elec provider---some of them are built to do that and your energy becomes a point of profit for the apt complex management--they buy it cheaper from the electric provider and pass a higher rate through to you...
