Commute from Forney to Downtown Dallas?
Hello everyone,
I would like to know if the weekday, rush hour commute from Forney to downtown Dallas is brutal or not? I mapped it and it says approx. 25 miles, which doesn't seem bad, but I wonder what that translates to in travel time during the rush hour, does anyone know? Thanks!

I think you're looking at a minimum of 40-45 minutes on most days. And an hour if traffic is slow for any reason. Sometimes maybe longer.

I live in Mesquite and it takes me 35 minutes to drive downtown. Forney is 10 minutes down the 80 so your looking at 40-45 minutes to downtown.

What part of the days are you driving in and what part of Mesquite are you coming from? I live in Forney and work past downtown off Inwood and 35 and can make it home in about 35min. Seems kind of long for Mesquite to downtown.

I guess it really depends on time of day. I live near John Horn High School and was having to be at work at 8:30am.

My wife works downtown near Inwood and I-35. 35 minutes is a best-case-scenario commute to or from Mesquite during rush hours. I would say 45 minutes would be best-case-scenario for Forney. Also remember that best-case-scenario days are few and far between.

It really depends on what neighborhood in Forney compared to what neighborhood in Mesquite. If you live in the Creek Crossing or Falcons Lair area of Mesquite it can take you 10 or more minutes just to make it up to Hwy 80 to go Downtown. Some neighborhoods in Forney are 1-2minutes off of Hwy 80 & some are further away. I have clients who commute & they timed it several times before moving in to their home which is in Skyline Estates off of Hwy80 & Lovers Ln & they found that it takes them 30-35minutes unless there is an accident. You should also test it out a couple times. If you are looking at Forney South of 80 you also have to take the railroad track into account although rare it does cause some big delays now & then for us.

If you leave Forney at 7:00 AM you are in for some traffic till probably 8:30 any time before or after is a breeze. Afternoon if you can make it past 635 loop before 5:00 you have about the same traffic. Forney is 20.7 miles from downtown Dallas per Microsoft Streets and that's center to center.

30 - 35 minutes is a fair assumption, but you do need to test it out for yourself. The feeder roads off of Hwy 80 in Forney are typically gridlock in the afternoon.
