That's a broad generalization for sure. I completely disagree. I think you'll find just as many insular and narrow-minded people in Dallas as you will in any of the suburbs.

That's why I qualified it with the fact that it is nothing but anecdotal.

It is refreshing to see someone that recognizes the value of anecdotal evidence.

I am kind of wishy washy on anecdotal evidence. I think there is some evidence that is more valuable than other evidence. For example, it drives me INSANE when people say that junior college students are dumb or not as good as four year university students; my experience in teaching these students AND having been a T.A. at a four year university doesn't support that contention. No one insults my chickens!

I only meant DISD, not Lake Highlands. RISD is a great district, I'll never buy the DISD is great thing, unless your kids get a chance to go to a magnet.

Thank you, Sepia! I have a 2-year degree. I was in college in the early 90's, and going into technology. It was interesting times with the boom in full swing. Since I wanted to get into Systems Administration at the time and no college really offered that as a course, I had to make a choice. Option 1 was to get my bachelors in computer science... meaning a programmer at the time - or option 2, get in the field and do the certification route. I opted for #2. Best move of my life. Those two extra years of full time experience allowed me to move into SA right away and quickly into network engineering, where I've been since.

DFW Mike (and Philip) then why do several DISD schools (Woodrow, W.T. White, Hillcrest) have several National Merit scholars each while RISD's Lake Highlands (a large school) has none?

You could try the Turtle Creek Area. I live here in The Warrington and it is nice for people between 40 and 60. I am 31 so My wife and I are like most peoples kids. You will find some liberal people here. I am a moderate with a more conservative leaning. We have a lot of modern ideals since we are actually in the Dallas Proper. You will have to pay for you kids education or maybe they could get into a charter school. You will probably have less house and less yard. For $1 Million you might end up in a townhouse. I have been told that Preston Hollow can be very pretentious and very racist and conservative. Preston Hollow elementary is where there was a big problem with segregation of Black and White students. Turtle Creek has much to offer and it is right next to Highland Park, University Park, and Preston Hills. Think of it as their odd little next door neighbor. I am happy and sad about leaving Turtle Creek. Moderator cut: realtor website

I am retired single (Law enforcement/Military) Black male. I Like the Dallas area (Preston club). My preferences are in the 850K-1.3Mil range. What area would this forum reccommend. Note: I am Catholic and my roots are from Aruba.
