I am moving to Dallas by the end of this month, my boyfriend already lives there in Grapevine, and we would be moving to a new apartment in the next couple months. I will be working off of Greenville Avenue in Dallas, and he works in Fort Worth near the speedway. Is it best to stay in Grapevine, or are there other cities that would make the commutes more even? I know I'll have more traffic the way I go to work, we were thinking maybe Irving/Las Colinas or Coppell too. Any good apartment recommendations or other cities to consider? Trying to stay around $1,000/month rent, $1,200/month being our upper limit. I do really like Grapevine, but does anyone have any input on what they think of Irving or Coppell? Thanks

wow, you guys are working in opposite ends of the universe as far as the metroplex is concerned! i guess something near the airport, like coppell or grapevine, as you mentioned, might be the most centrally located. you should easily stay in your budget in those areas, but i'm sorry, i don't know much about either one. maybe lewisville or carrollton? what part of greenville ave are you working? that road stretches for quite some time...

ahh, yeah you are right, sorry. i mapquested the directions from where he lives currently and it says 32 minutes, up to 50 in traffic. I will be taking 635e for 17 miles and taking the greenville exit. Once I get off that exit, it's about less than 3 miles until where I'll be. It's by the Royal Oaks Country Club if that helps.

That is going to be a horrible commute for you! A happy medium is going to be Valley Ranch/north Irving. That will be about equal mileage and time. But it's still going to mean you both will be spending a LOT of time in the car and burning a lot of $2.30+ a gallon gas...

Not really. Northwest Highway is an alternative, but it has LOTS of traffic lights and backs up really bad at the Dallas Tollway intersection.

Try to avoid LBJ (635) if you can - I would never get on it without checking it out or listening to the traffic report (and yes it's about to be re-constructed). Alternatives would be the previously mentioned Northwest Highway (Loop 12) and Walnut Hill or Royal Lane, maybe even Forest Lane.
