We're thinking about building/purchasing in D/T McKinney. We've been looking for a home and neighborhood with more character and the small town feel; similar to where we grew up (up North). We really want to avoid the typical cookie cutter homes (not that those are bad and provide a more unique experience for our family. We love the D/T feel of McKinney, but did notice there are some spotty areas where the homes are not well kept, which is pretty typical in a historic district up North as well.

Someone from the area; where's a good place to build or purchase a home in D/T McKinney. Know of any reputable builders for the D/T area that are keeping with the period of the homes? Husband works North Dallas, just below LBJ. What's the commute time?

Are there any negatives to living D/T with a young child (less than 2). All suggestions welcome!

Thanks.

I don't know what your budget is but Tucker Hill in McKinney is a community starting in the high 200s with Victorian & Craftsman homes.

If you are looking for a pre-owned home then the downtown Mckinney area would be it.

That commute is going to get old - 50-60 minutes in typical rush hour times. Central Expressway has a ton of volume - very heavily traveled.
