This is from today's Dallas Morning News. They have all the TAKS scores - passing rate and commended rate - of each test from these school districts. There are 27 TAKS tests taken between 3rd grade and 12th grade. I averaged them together to get one score for each district.

Commended is supposed to be like getting an A on the TAKS test.

That's not entirely true. A commended status is reached by getting a scale score of 2400 on the TAKS test, but the percent of correct items is different for each test taken. For example:

4th Grade Reading in April, a 2400 was reached by answering 38 of 40 answers correctly (95%)

4th Grade Math in April, a commended score was reach by answering 39 of 42 answer correctly (92.8%)

It even varies from test administration. 3rd grade Reading in March required 33 of 36 to get a scale score of 2400, but you needed to answer 34 of 36 correctly in 3rd grade Reading in April.

Well, that's what The Dallas Morning News said commended meant. I don't have personal knowledge. It apparently varies as to what it means from your description. Thanks for the clarification!
