Two off the top of my head are:
Kuby's in Dallas www.kubys.com
Frirtzl's in Rowlett

Get a D Magazine and look in the back of it in the restuarant listings and reveiws. I'm sure there are several listed there.

Kuby's is the best-known - I've eaten there since the 1970s, used to eat lunch there once or twice per week during my SMU days.

Also east of Central Expressway is Henk's Home Page

Try Bavarian Grill in Plano - Bavarian Grill - Plano, Texas

Also - if you don't mind a drive, check out Muenster. They sponsor Germanfest every April (GERMANFEST MUENSTER, TX), and there are several German restaurants in town. It's a nice scenic drive if you take the back roads and avoid I-35.

You might be thinking of Henk's/Black Forest Bakery. It's behind the big Half Price Books store on NW Highway.

I have eaten at Henk's, it is very good plus it has a great little deli attached to it. Lots of people speaking actual German there when I went.

When my wife and I traveled to the Dallas-area we went to the Bavarian Grill. I had Sauerbraten - my God it was so delicious. I am 1/4 German and that side of me comes out and must have German food. LOL I can't wait to explore other places when we move there next year.
