N. Ross Ave in Tyler
I am a retiree planning to relocate to Tyler, Tx and am looking at a home on N. Ross Rd. Can anyone tell me about this area of Tyler, demographics, crime, noise ( I see a train track close by on the map)?

You should post your question on the Texas Forum as well, since the Dallas Forum focuses mainly on the immediate Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area.

Tyler is a bad area to live in. It has a bad rap for rape according to the internet. If you like diversity, you'll like this area. One thing that turned me off is I felt kind of out of place because I'm not used to living in a crime ridden, dirty like community, I liked Lindale though! It's about 5-10 min from Tyler!
Hope this helps!

I agree, I lived in Tyler for 6 years and regret every moment. Tyler is a great place if you enjoy being bored, spending 30 minutes in traffic on loop 323 or broadway when it really should only take 10. Ignorant people, young country bumpkins that will never figure out how to behave in public. Trashy people everywhere you go, no matter which side of town you live in. When you go to the grocery store, be prepare to wait in line behind several people consisting of a wide variety of colors paying with food stamps and WIC. Tyler, without a doubt houses the most lazy, inconsiderate group of degenerate parasites I have ever seen. There is no workforce, no customer service. It is one very large melting pot of absolutely nothing. Don't waste your time on this place, seriously. And don't get me started on North Tyler.

we have friends who live in Tyler and like it
it is a small town in east TX--it is conservative, Republican, Christian, and clique-ish
home values in some areas are pretty high--but some parts of Tyler are not so good because while there are some very wealthy people there are also some that are borderline poverty
in most towns the RR tracks are pretty clear demarcation line with desireable on one side and un-desireable on the other
you can check out info about Tyler on the other part of city data where the income avg, % of population by race/sex/age is posted and other stuff
tyler has been growing in past few years because of the natural gas boom but with prices down I think that area of business is taking a hit--but there is good medical teaching hospital there and plenty of doctors because of that
run a search on the main TX board and you will get lots of past threads probably
but I wonder why you are retiring there if you know nothing about it

N Ross??
I lived in or near tyler from 1972 until 1995 and I wouldn't even consider living near N Ross. That's NORTH tyler. Where you want is SOUTH tyler. Tyler has changed sooooo much since '72. Back then it had little crime, little traffic, great people and great food. Now it has
lots of crime, lots of traffic, great people and great food. lol

Small town of 100,000+ people & a metro area of 200,000? Small East Texas town is somewhere like Palestine or Mineola.

Tyler isn't a bad place to live. I grew up there and want to move back. I have all of my relatives living there at present time. Don't pay attention to the rape statstics..most of it isn't true. I can tell you that this town has a high number of churches...
