Default Dallas Vs. Houston II

Apparently the first Dallas vs. Houston topic has been closed.

Just want to say that people have taken their sides and that at the end of the day it comes down to preferences. Both are great cities, both have unique things to offer.

If you prefer sports, DFW boasts more professional teams than Houston.
If you prefer American Airlines to Continental, then DFW is for you.
If you like dry heat to humid heat (aka 20-30% humidity to 80%), then DFW is for you.
If you like more shopping centers per capita, then DFW is for you.
If you like a freeway system that has less traffic issues, and in my opinion is better planned, then DFW is for you.
If you like to travel by light or heavy rail, DFW is for you.
If you like to have to major PMSA's in one MSA (aka Dallas and Ft. Worth) or Seattle/Tacoma, or SF/Oakland, or Minneapolis/St. Paul, then DFW is for you.
If you want a larger area population and more distinct suburbs with flavor, then DFW is for you.

If you like ethnic cruisines, then admittedly Houston is for you.
If you like more diversity, yes Houston is for you (though DFW is catching up).
If you like the Ocean (gulf), Houston is for you.
If you like to be closer to the other MSA's of Texas, Houston is for you.
If you like Continental to American, Houston is for you.
If you like more Texan flavor, then probably Houston is for you. (Dallas tends to have more East Coast and Midwestern influences than Houston....accents are not as drawn out or distinctly Texan up here).
If you like things concentrated within a inner loop, then Houston is for you. (DFW's business districts are much more spread out...PRO: traffic is not concentrated to a single loop area....con, Dallas proper cant claim all the Fortune 500 companies in the area).
If you want more New Orleans culture, Houston is for you

Good list there but Houston does have some great shopping opportunities. Mpope and I had a slightly heated discussion on the topic a while ago and we mutually agreed that although Dallas had more upscale shopping areas, Houston had a better variety of high-end botique shopping.

I would also disagree on what city has more Texas flavor. Fort Worth has more Texas flavor than either Dallas or Houston; it's a great city with the charm of the old west. But besides those two items, that list is good.

Why do we keep starting these threads ? I think where you live depends on where your employed. Houston has nice areas to live and raise a family, as does Dallas. They are different, so why put them against one another ?

Why not North Dallas vs. Aurora CO where I just came back from on biz travel.

First time to CO and I have to say.....not impressed. North Dallas is nicer. It was just as flat (Mtns way off in the distance), the construction looked somewhat cheap compared to the fortresses here, the zoning eclectic, no good places to eat (downtown was OK), the people reminded me of CA - very to themselves - not mean - but not friendly. I expected so much more.

And most, the weather sucked (snow storm in April?) I couldn't wait to get home to Dallas. Maybe I should have visited Tallyride CO first....
