Well considering that most of the hockey fans in Dallas are transplants from up north putting the rink in Duncanville was not a very good move. There are not many transplants who move to the southern sector, hence the lack of interest in hockey. Football and basketball will always be king in the southern sector.

The southern sector is always going to have trouble attracting anything.

Perhaps you should post a comment about it on The Dallas Morning News community blog that covers Duncanville. Oh, wait. There isn't one.

I've been to that center for hockey, they had two full bantam teams (kids aged 12/13/14) last rec season. One of them was very good and was first in the standings. Not sure about the other ages. Mansfield High school practices there I believe (saw some Mansfield banners hanging up).

HEY!!!! I'm a Native Dallasite and a HUGE hockey fan. I LOVE my DALLAS STARS! Believe it or not a great number of fans and season ticket holders are native Texans and Dallasites. We have been going since 1996

Same goes for the kids playing hockey now. We have several friends that are natives whose sons have played or do play hockey.

Seems though most of the rinks are heavily concentrated in certain areas and the eastern & northeastern portion of the metroplex got completely left out. Ice time is hard to come by for many teams and our friends over on this side of town always had to drive across town for practices and games.

They've just built a new Dr Pepper Star Center in Allen, that might help those that play hockey near you. It will certainly be more convenient for the McKinney folks.

I think Cedar Hill would take issue with that.

The Dallas Morning News does a very poor job of covering news in the southern suburbs. The situation has only gotten worse since the Today Newspaper, that covered all five cities (DeSoto, Duncanville, Lancaster, Cedar Hill, and Grand Prairie), closed last month. A region of nearly 170,000 people and the DMN has no special blogs or coverage like other areas have. Their online edition has gone downhill, especially since they have allowed "moderated" reader comments to be posted after each story. Some of the things that are said have been so awful that they had to block people from from posting comments altogether.
