Call Farmers. We just switched after being life long SF policy holders and saving a bundle.

Hi JLJ, my Father-in-Law just sent this link on this issue:

http://www.forbes.com/realestate/200..._0225home.html

It basically states that Texas has the highest home owner's insurance. Have fun reading.

We've used Germania for several years and have always been happy with their service.

That's an older home, older homes cost alot more to insure according to the 3 companies I used to price insurance.

I have a new 300+ sq/ft home and it's right around $100 a month. Drive through a new community in Allen, write down an address of a spec home, then price it again. I was told that 30-35% savings is the average for new construction.

JLJ, that price State Farm quoted you is close to what Traveler's (Geico) ended up bumping out rates to after we closed. Of course they bumped the rates by over appraising the value of our home. We switched to Germania and are paying around $1300.

I was quoted $1600 for a 4500 sq.ft. 450K house by USAA. This was for a policy that covered 125% of actual home price/value, + 225K for personal property. Ya, they all tend to inflate the values of the homes and property. However, they are usually rated the #1 insurance company in America by CR. The caveat is you need to be military or a dependant of a military parent to use their services.
