Pearce is a high school, not an area. JJ Pearce Addition is just north and west of Pearce High School. JJ Pearce Addition and Canyon Creek are both in Pearce's attendance zone.
Single family homes are MUCH safer than apartments.
Yes, you can walk around and feel safe.

wheregirl, why don't you tell us how serious you are about moving to the Dallas area?
Because I noticed you have recently posted on the Seattle, Chicago, Denver, Atlanta, Roanoake, New Haven, Westchester County NY, Philadelphia, etc boards posing as someone who is interested in moving to those cities as well.
You also have an almost OCD like tendency to ask questions regarding safety and forest space.
Please stop posting all these questions here until you are seriously considering a move to Dallas. It wastes everyone's time to read & respond to someone who is just messing around in 10+ cities' boards.

Yep, even the two threads she has started here in the Dallas forums are a little "sketchy". In this one when I first read the title/question I just wanted to say: RICHARDSON! duh........
But beware, she will get mad at you now as she did someone over in the Colorado forums for calling her out on the same thing.

Richardson Questions: ie diversity, safety etc.
My husband and I have 2 small children. We homeschool, so we do not need to worry about finding a school. We want to be in a very diverse area.
1) How racially diverse is Richardson?
2) Is it pretty safe/what types of crimes do you hear about there?
3) Know of any family-friendly, safe, diverse subdivisions where we can rent a single-family house in?
We do not want to buy initially, so that we can get a feel for the area before making that kind of decision.
4)What parks are nearby to take the children to ? We want to be able to find minority children as well to play (hopefully in a homeschool group as well) with, since it won't be hard to find non-minority children for them to play with.
5) What areas to avoid?
6) Know of any non-denominational, multicultural churches in the area or within 30min.? We are not looking for a megachurch?
We are out of state, so it is hard when you are not there. Hence the reason for so many ques. We are also considering areas near, but not in Houston. We also wanted to look at this area as well.
Been doing alot of research, but input from those that live there would help.
Thanks so much in advance!!!

1) How racially diverse is Richardson?
Richardson is pretty diverse. For being an older "inner ring" burb that has very good public schools and such it is probably tops when it comes to diversity and being able to "fit" a wide range of people and their wants/needs.
2) Is it pretty safe/what types of crimes do you hear about there?
Petty crimes. Anything that is "brutal" or "violent" tends to be from a relationship or someone that the person(s)/victim already knows. Most crimes are going to be petty though and even then you could live in Richardson for 40 years and never experience so much as your house getting tp'd by your teenagers friends. Unless your hanging out with the wrong crowd I wouldn't worry about crime. Just be smart and don't leave valuables visible in your car, lock your car doors, lock your doors and windows at night and such, don't leave mail and newspapers to stack up for several days, etc.
3) Know of any family-friendly, safe, diverse subdivisions where we can rent a single-family house in?
Depends on your budget and like mentioned people don't move out of the area all of the time. The turnover is VERY LOW. People tend to live in Richardson for the long haul. I'd look in these areas: Richardson Heights, Canyon Creek, Breckinridge, Sherrill Park, Spring Park, The Reservation, College Park, the areas around Plano Rd and Belt Line and Arapho and all of the others that have been mentioned. You really can't go wrong with any of them.
4)What parks are nearby to take the children to ? We want to be able to find minority children as well to play (hopefully in a homeschool group as well) with, since it won't be hard to find non-minority children for them to play with.
Heights Park is one as is the pool there. There is a small "kiddie" pool there as well for the little bitty ones. There are many parks all over Richardson. Bob Woodruff, Breckinridge, Sherrill Park, Spring Park, Prarie Creek, Heights Park, etc.
I do know there are some homeschool groups and I do know our church is starting a group for homeschoolers to get together by starting a homeschooling Directory. If your interested in that you can call up to The Heights Baptist and ask about it. There is also a teachers supply store right on the Garland/Richardson border on Buckingham at Plano Rd that you might contact as well as I know I've overheard several homeschooling parents in there. Another source would be ASI Gymnastics as they do a homeschooling class as well.
5) What areas to avoid?
Only the apartments near Spring Valley and Coit. The apartments as the single family homes back in that area are just fine.
6) Know of any non-denominational, multicultural churches in the area or within 30min.? We are not looking for a megachurch?
Fellowship but it might be too large depending on what you call a "megachurch". I know several that go there as well as Spring Creek Community on Belt Line in Garland (just a few blocks east of the Richardson border .

Thank you!
Wow momof2dfw! Thanks so much for your reply. I will let my husband know.
Is there a nice mall nearby, where we will still find a diverse(but nice) crowd.
Where is the church, Fellowship located exactly?
Thanks!

There are a LOT of malls close by. The only mall in Richardson closed but it redeveloped and I still call it Richardson Square. There is a Sears, SuperTarget, Lowe's and Ross.
Close by malls are:
Firewheel Town Center - in Garland and fairly new outdoor mall that is popular. Dillards, Macy's, all of the other popular stores, AMC theater, dining and they all have an outdoor patio to dine. LOVE the new Yogun Fruz (similiar to Orange Cup).
Collin Creek Mall - Plano on 75 but kind of "dying" and not near as popular as it used to be. Not expected to be around in 5 years but that is anyones guess.
Galleria - in Dallas but VERY close to Richardson at LBJ and the Dallas North Tollway. Indoor ice rink.
Valley View - close to the Galleria and a much older mall that has also seen it's heyday come and go.
NorthPark - the most popular mall in all of Dallas and one of the first indoor malls. Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom's, Dillards, Macy's and lots of high end and other popular stores here.
Willow Bend - in Plano on the Dallas North Tollway.
Stonebriar - in Frisco.
Allen Outlet Mall - in Allen on 75.

Fellowship has several locations. I'm always going past the one in Dallas on Central/75 right close to NorthPark Mall which would be about a 15-30 minute drive from Richardson depending on what area you are in. I believe there is also one in Allen or is it Plano or both???? I can't keep up

Hi
Thanks so much. You have given alot of info. that I need to know. You have been very helpful!
We just have to narrow it down to where in TX will fit best for us.
Are the zoos in the DFW area pretty nice?
How is the crowd at the pool in Heights Park? Is it pretty tame?
Blessings,
musicmom!
