Does anyone know of any 400 meter running tracks that are open to the public community in Coppell, Lewisville, Carrollton, Plano? You know, the striped tracks that go around football fields.

Almost all high schools have them and many middle schools too. ... but they are often secured and locked (primarily to keep people off the football field), causing the runners to get left out too.

I know they're all over the place, but i'm looking for ones that you are pretty sure aren't locked. ... One's that you've been to or seen the general public using.

This would be for daytime use by me, nighttime lighting or group / event clearance isn't necessary.

Default Re:

What do you mean exactly by "daytime"? Most schools will run you off their property during school hours.

I have used the tracks at several Plano ISD high schools in the late afternoon and early evening with no problems.

I don't think the ones at Shepton and Vines even have fences.

There is a Coppell middle school(don't recall the school name but it is on MacArthur) in the Valley Ranch area that I see people running on.

I'll have to keep looking. The track at Barbara Bush Middle School (On Macarthur, SE of Macarthur & Belt Line in Valley Ranch) is locked up.

Same question for the Grapevine area. Since school started it has become really difficult to get on the track on weekday evenings due to football practice, games, drill team practice, band practice, etc. Anyone know of an available track?

Default track in Carrollton is open

The Standridge Stadium is track is open from 11:00-1:00 on weekdays; it might be open in the evenings too. I use it on my lunch break. It costs $1.00 to use it, but that includes using the locker room. You can pay $2.00 and use the indoor pool, too.

Grapevine Middle School's track is always open to the public. It's behind the Walgreen's off Northwest Hwy at Pony Dr.

Default Is it legal?

On what legal basis do some Texas schools close their running tracks for public after-hours use?
