Question Relocating for a Job in Plano, Tx from Austin where do I live?

I really want to know where the cool places close enough for a commute to Plano. I am single female. I have a dog. I would like to rent a little house or condo something possibly with a little yard. Does anyone have any ideas about where I should start looking. Thanks

You can live in Dallas and commute to Plano, which would be going against traffic. Many people, including myself, do it every day and it's really not bad. You can also look in Plano, Richardson, Frisco, etc. if you want the burb lifestyle. What is your definition of cool?

Not really into the burbs. Single, no kids. In Austin I live in a more Urban area, right next to UT. I was told M streets? Lower Greenville? I dont know the area that well and would like somewhere safe to of course. I guess I really just take this weekend to go and check it out.

M Streets and Lower Greenville you might like but you are looking at a higher crime area. I lived in the M Streets back in the 90's. I loved the location, but I got sick of being burglarized.

Check out Knox-Henderson. That's one street that runs east/west and crosses Central Expressway (75) about 2 miles north of downtown Dallas. It's called Knox on the west side of the freeway and Henderson on the east side. The Henderson side is the more Austin-like. There are lots of new apartments along Henderson Ave as well as older homes (some of which might be available for rent). The area is a hotspot for restaurants and bars. The further east you drive on Henderson, the more Austin it gets. Even if you don't live there, you'll probably end up hanging out there.

I second the idea of looking at the townhouses and/or condos available in the Shops at Legacy area of Plano. I think you'd be pleased with the vibe, and you could avoid having a daily commute.

M Streets is pretty safe. Just avoid living within a half block of Greenville (loud drunks) and 75 (noise). You'll definitely want a place with an alarm, just to be safe.

What side of Plano will you work- east (closer to 75) or west (closer to the Tollroad)? If east, M Streets or Knox-Henderson are good picks. If west, look into North Oak Lawn, Turtle Creek, or West Village areas for easy access to the Tollroad entrance at Wycliff.

If she is used to a true urban environment (South Congress or West U areas in Austin), she will be bored to tears after checking out the one bookstore, the five trendy shops, and 20 restaurants at Shops at Legacy.

Uptown, Knox-Henderson, Oak Lawn, or M Streets are what she is seeking.
The commute isn't bad at all - 25 min in the am from Wycliff to Legacy on the Tollroad and 30-40 in the pm.

It's well worth it to live in the city and not the burbs!!
