Default Dyslexia

My son who is 11 years old, has dyslexia. I was wondering if you knew of any good schools or tutors in the Plano/Allen/McKinney area to help kids with dyslexia? I am loosing faith in the public school system. Thank you.

Default Dyslexia

Wylie and Allen Public Schools use Academic Language Therapists on their campuses and have very strong dyslexia programs. Wylie is known to be a leader in this area. Plano is not a good place for dyslexic students, though there have been improvements, the basis of the program is called Herman Reading program and it is not known to be a high quality program.

For tutors you want a Certified Academic Language Therapist, (ALT), they are highly trained in dyslexia instruction with a four year degree, plus an additional two years focusing on dyslexia education. They have a website, ALTA - Academic Language Therapy Association - Home
Also, for parent support we have a group in Plano, IDEAS -* Impacting Dyslexia Education Awareness and Support that has a great resource page.

Hope this helps, best of luck
M.

My son attended this school SHELTON SCHOOL & EVALUATION CENTER which is near Hillcrest and Arapaho in Far North Dallas. It has 850 kids, plenty of whom that were from Plano. We were there 6 years and it's a Godsend.
