Default dallas summer weather

Well its a little late to ask this but I have been fishing for input on the general Texas board with only marginal input. My story- Dont live in TX but visited for the first time last August. Flew into DFW and took a taxi out near farmers branch on the LBJ Hwy and the first thing I notice is that all the grass along the freeway is lush green. This is the third week in August and Im thinking "this is Texas in summer" So I get a rental car and head east thru Tyler, Longview, Marshall, south down to Rusk and west thru Cherokee, Anderson and Houston countys and its green, lush, thick vegitation like springtime growth. So I am wondering if this is typical of August in Dallas or was this last summer wetter than normal for these areas. I know the southern parts of the state bout burned up this year but what of this August green growth?

We had a pretty wet July and a really wet September & October. The vegetation is REALLY green right now. Usually from mid summer through the winter the vegetation is a nice shade of brown.
