Is there a City in the north Dallas area (looking at working in Plano) that has a downtown similar to what I'd find in Southlake? I did some consulting there and loved it. Looking at what the commute would be to get from Southlake to Plano, it doesn't look like an option, though. Also, a little too $$$ in Southlake too. I'd be looking in the $200-225k area. Just me & my dog. So, outside of a pool and nice sized yard, I'm not picky. I really love being walking distance from downtown in my current place, though.

Thanks for any help.

I don't know - isn't Southlake's "Downtown" completely faux and ersatz? I hear McKinney has an authentic town square.

The next best thing would be a Dallas neighborhood with a real, historic shopping center (not a strip mall). You can find those in Lakewood, Lower Greenville, Knox-Henderson and North Oak Cliff.

I'm not a fan of "quaint" downtowns. I don't know why, but I like to have Starbucks, J. Crew or Bannana Republic, and some high-end dining, along with a couple of trendy bars. Throw in a Cold Stone and a Chipotle and I'm happy. Basically, as you describe it a giant walkable strip mall posing as a downtown would be ideal.

I never considered Addison very pedestrian friendly.

I knew the area along the tollway has quite a bit of shopping and restaurants. But I wasn't sure about the pedestrian friendly part.

That's good. And there's also the Shops at Legacy. http://www.shopsatlegacy.com/residences.php (broken link) (It's sad I forgot them, since I could see them if I stood up to look over the cube....)

Garland always had an authentic downtown. I haven't been there in several years, but I imagine DART helped..

I'm in love with this place already. Now, problem is prices start at the low 300's for the only real homes. Have to find out if the apartments will let Hank the Dog move in now. Anyone happen to know off the top of their head?
