The McKinney Avenue Trolley is to be expanded slightly more into downtown but the new system will feature modern streetcars ala Amsterdam. And DART will be putting in a second light rail line downtown in the next few years.

Apartments south of The Village (not to be confused with West Village) are south of Lover's Lane between Greenville Ave and Skillman - streets are E. University, Birchbrook, Sandhurst, Jason etc. Free Shuttle to DART stations - The Mustang Express - also goes to SMU.

Across street (lover's Lane) from Village, there are some apartments (signature points, I have no idea about the residents there, but the apartments looks fine from outside) as well, which is good and closer to lover's lane redline rail station.
The Signature Point apartments have been closed for months. They were going to be demolished and replaced at some point, but I think the state of the economy has stalled that project. There are some brand new apartments that have just opened at the corner of Amesbury and Lovers, directly across the street from Signature Point.
