Lancaster Area
After more investigating, this seems like a nice little suburb of Dallas. Anyone have any insight on this area? I'm 29 years old and I like the feel of the suburbs, but need to be close to the downtown area for potential bar/club hopping. I hope the crime rate is low here and hope they have dog friendly parks.

Lancaster?
I don't know much about Lancaster. According to stats on this City-Data website, crime rate is higher there than the national average and higher than most of the northern suburbs. Maybe someone else on this board will have some insight and/or personal experience about Lancaster.

I agree Lancaster is not all that great at this time. There tend to be more random crime in that area. The town is working on getting more developement in the area. So you would have to go through the growing pains of that process.
Desoto, Cedar Hill, some parts of Duncanville, South Grand Prairie, and Mansfield would be better choices. And you would still be close to the city. Your morning commute would suck, but that applies to almost everyone.
Cedar Hill has the most to offer for the outdoor nature lover. My advise is to come out and check out the northern and southern suburbs. That way your can get a feel for the enviroment and choose the one best for you. Hope that helps.

uhh, NO! Lancaster, seriously. Have you visited the place? I20 is home to a LOT of freight transportation points which means LOTS of truck traffic and truck stops. Every gas station just about in that area is a truck stop. Crime, not the best area for getting away from crime. Young, professional, single person........ NO! Not even close to a good place to be for one that falls into that demographic group. More families, less w/ college educations, etc.

What's the area with the Veteran's Medical Center called? Looking at Google Maps I see a pretty big neighborhood West of the VA Medical Center across the street from South Lancaster Road. I wouldn't mind living close to work.

Nope, not there either! At least I wouldn't recommend it.

I think that is a part of South Oak Cliff and it is not a good area from what I have been told. I rarely travel to that area. It is not a progressive area and crime is pretty bad there ( car theft, home invasions, and random street crime). What do you do for a living. And what are you looking for in your community as for a quality of living.
If you are going to live on the southside either live in North Oak Cliff or go south and west.

YIKES!!!!!!!!!! What you see on Google Maps is one thing. What is REALLY there is another. Take a real good look a little to the east from there along I20. See any large areas that are not homes or developments? Those are landfills.
