Looking for info on High Rises in Dallas
I fell in love with downtown Dallas while visiting a few years ago. I really liked the West End and Historic Area and would like to be within walking distance. Any suggestions on High Rise Condo's for sale or rent in the area? What is the going rate per Square Foot?

I toured the complex this summer and I think that they did a fantastic job of renovating it. Plus they created a really sexy pool area.

Downtown is a beautiful area but the price per square foot varies greatly depending on which building you are looking. It is not like say the Plano area where you will have a consistent dollar range in the same area. In downtown more info is needed to answer your question. There are some very nice views that's for sure

I live in a high rise on Turtle Creek, about 2.5 miles north of downtown. There are tons of high rise condo options in Dallas! It's a great lifestyle for anyone seeking low maintenance & the ability to know your home is safe & packages can be delivered if you travel a lot.
First, just to help you understand Dallas better, the West End is mainly for tourists and maybe people coming in from the suburbs. I don't know anyone who hangs out there, including friends that live on Ross a block away. So to be within walking distance isn't what I'd look for in a condo here.
The most exciting things going on in Dallas now are the Arts District downtown, the Katy Trail, and the development of Knox-Henderson as the premier restaurant/ bar/ home shopping corridor in Dallas (locally owned bars & restaurants that are always packed and probably two dozen home stores from chain Pottery Barn to locally owned Weir's and high end boutiques like Mecox.)
I would find these on a map and look at the high rises closest to these areas, both so you can enjoy them and for future resale value.
For the Arts District, your options are very upscale and expensive. One Arts Plaza and the condos at The Ritz Carlton are the closest high rises. I believe 1 bedrooms at OAP start around $600k. Dues are $1,000/ mo range for a 1 bedroom. There are also some buildings downtown which I believe a previous poster gave you.
For the Katy Trail, any of the Turtle Creek high rises would put you within a block of an entrance to the trail. There is a wide selection of buildings to choose from-
mid century modern buildings (3525, 21 Turtle Creek, The Gold Crest, & Turtle Creek North) have one bedrooms from $110k (complete re-do at 21 Turtle Creek) to $350k or so (updated large 1 br at 3525 with a full downtown view.). Dues run approx $500-800 per month for a 1 BR. In my building, dues include all bills (including basic cable & electricity), maintence of all common property (including pool), salaries for doorman, valets, receiving dock, maintenance crew, and property management, as well as our reserve fund to pay for maintenance and repairs.
Then there is The Renaissance, which is a newer building with a ton (1,000?) of units that are what I'll call "opening price point.". 1 bedrooms start at just under $200k with the same finish outs that you'd find in any "luxury" apartment building. Construction is said to be better in the first tower built and less thorough in the other two towers.
Lastly, there are the luxury Turtle Creek buildings. There are The Mansion on Turtle Creek, The Mayfair, The Vendome. $500k+ for a small 1 bedroom (pied-a-terre) in the Vendome or Mayfair....up to $4-5M for a penthouse in the Mansion. Dues start at $1,000++ per month.
For the Knox-Henderon area, there is one high rise on Travis, but avoid it like the plague. Lawsuits, mold problems, developer only sold part of the building as condos so there are renters there, too. Lots of townhomes and low rise condos in the area if you choose to go that route.
One word of caution with high rises- beware assessments and budget for them!!! Sometimes assessments (improvements) are voted on by the homeowners, other times they are mandated by re HOA board due to impending safety issues (balconies) or emergency repairs (elevators break). Assessments can run anywhere from $3,000 to $40,000 per unit depending on the work that is to be down. It is home ownership, just you have little control as to when the work will be done and you have to trust the board to get good bids and make decisions on your behalf.
Almost every building on Turtle Creek has had major assessmets in the past few years, from the 45- year old 21 Turtle Creek to the 25-year old Worthington to the 5-year old Vendome.
Just do your homework to find out what has been done recently ad what is coming down the pike next.

If you're looking to buy right downtown, your options are limited for the West End (509 Elm, the Metropolitan, 1505 Elm) but Victory Park condos are within walking distance. As far as rentals go, there are a few new generic apartments in the West End (West End Station or 1001 Ross), or there are lots of lofts in the Main Street District.
