Default Please recommend a hardwood floor specialist

I am desperate. I have had several people over to estimate the job of refinishing the hardwood floor in my hallway and none of them ever got back to me. I am tired of having staples and tack strips all over my floor. I had to tear the carpet out because one of my cats ruined it by constantly peeing on it.

Can someone recommend a reliable, reasonable, quality contractor in Dallas/north suburbs to refinish my floors? If they are good there will be future jobs for them as I redo all the rooms in my house.

Thank you!

I shot an email to the guy who installed our floors to see if he had any suggestions. Unfortunately his response was it's just not cost effective to do really small jobs like that, and he speculated that might be why you aren't getting any responses.

Hmm....I guess the economy is still good enough for them to turn down a small job with the promise of leading to a much larger job down the road.

Ben Ashmore.

Very reasonably priced- in fact, my mom once asked him why he hasn't raised his prices in years. Hid response? "I make enough money." Has installed or refinished hardwoods in my entire extended family's homes over the past 20 years.

Can you privately send me his contact information? Thanks!

If the floors do not have a polyurethane seal, you can clean them with one of the cleaning solutions you can find at hardware stores ( or Murphy's or wood soap -- sparingly applied and not diluted too much -- the water is bad for the floor) and then apply lemon oil a couple of times -- let it soak in - then you can apply the wax by hand and buff by hand -- it's not that difficult to do, but you will have to sit on the floor and get on your hands and knees. Sometimes just the lemon oil is enough.

I have no idea what they have on them but they are a honey color and I want the finish to match the other exposed hardwoods in the house. Plus there are lots of staples, nails, tack strips, and a urine stain. I need a pro.

Hey I am good at popping those staples and tack strips! I just need a radio while I'm doing it as it can be tedious..urine, not much you can do except darken the stain...never tried bleaching but I've heard it doesn't work.

The lemon oil will tend to darken the floors a bit, and it is sort of honey colored...

If you bleach the stain, you will have a white spot in the floor. You can try to have the whole floor bleached but otherwise, you learn to live with the stain.
