Recession....in Dallas?!?
Well, the up here in Cleveland we certainly know about the Recession. Few jobs, increased crime, city seems to be making it impossible for buisnesses to stay in town. More taxes. Good Gravy
How is Dallas doing in the recession? How are the businesses doing? Any jobs?
Is Dallas doing better than the rest of the country?
For whatever the reason, Texas (Dallas) seems to be holding its own during this time. Why is the Big D doing so well?
Thoughts?

I think it depends on a person's background, skills, outlook, connections, resume buzzwords, luck, etc. to determine how (or how much) they are feeling it. There are still jobs everywhere. The question is whether you have a job, or can get a new one if you need to.

Jobs are everywhere is Dallas, in fact they are roaring up for the holiday's. Dallas has felt the effects but nothing like the rest of the nation. Dallas didn't sub-prime their home sales, didn't barrow what couldn't be paid back. Of course there is lay offs daily and belts tigthing. However, all in all I see the waves shifting. I work with a rail road company and it is true you mark the recession by the rail road stock and the volume. It is moving more swiftly in the last two month then it has in the last 11 months. I believe we got the tail end of the recession and we will be the first out of the recession. Dallas has a lot of offer. You might not get that perfect job you always wanted right away but in time with connections & skills you will.

Who ever voted the first option is not being honest with themselves or anyone else on the forum. Dallas has indeed suffered from this recession though not nearly as much as other parts of the country. Texas in general is just doing "ok". It could be better, it could be a lot worst.

Texas is doing OK, because it never had the highs of other places.
Doesn't mean there are jobs aplenty, though.

Agreed. I know professional people who are out of jobs and struggling in a way they've never had to before. We're much better off than other places in the country, no doubt about that, but the recession does exist here. Just about everyone we know has lost investment money, that's not local, that's nationwide.

We did not get hit as much as other cities but we did get hit. I had been out of work since Feb and just found a job. I must admit I took about 4 months off before starting my search. We did fair much better than many states and compared to Cleveland we are much better off.
