For me and my new commute from Wylie to Dallas, 24.9 miles from work to office, the biggest snag that makes even the fastest travel time 35 minutes each way is that it takes approx 15 minutes for me to get from my house to a freeway or tollway. In the populated Bay Area where I am from (And specifically referring to East Bay as the launching point), it is usually 5 minutes tops from any point unless you are up in the hills or something.

Not really complaining but I am going to try DART rail + bus to go to work when weather is bad because that commute pushed 1:10 when it snowed. The only downside is that rail + bus (And then walk a block) requires being outside at times, nothing something fun during said bad weather. And doing this when it's "hot" is out of the question because I'll get to work and my car parked at Parker Rd station dripping in sweat.

But in my dream world Texas Highway 78 would be turned into freeway/tollway (At least from Wylie [intersection w/ FM 544] to Northwest Hwy). That would make life simpler and drive up property values in Wylie. :-)

In all seriousness though, the best I will have to accept is that when 190 (Bush tollway) is extended all the way to I-30, people such as myself will have the option of going down 75 OR 190 to I-30 to get into Dallas. Although the latter is longer, it will probably be faster. My fastest single leg of a commute thus far was going home via DNT to Bush Tollway at 7:00pm. Technically a few miles longer than 75, but the speed and psychological feeling made up for it. But gas + tolls would add up and that only works off-peak because DNT is bad between Bush and Addison toll tunnel during rush hour.

Typically the commute isn't that bad, especially when you compare it to places with massive gridlock like Los Angeles and Washington, DC. Today I made it from my front door to the desk I'm chained to in less than 40 minutes.
