Hi, i'm a 27 yo AAF traveling from ATL to Dallas for a few months for work. My company will arrange housing but I want to know a lil info on Dallas neighborhoods (never been there n don't know anyone in the area )....
Ok so I currently live in the Buckhead area (great shopping, nice "mix" of races, close to downtown nightlife) but when i don't wanna "club", I enjoy going to laid back lounges in Lithonia, Cascade, and Camp Creek areas (generally where mid class African Americans hang)....are there any areas like that in Dallas??? i'm trying to avoid areas similar to Sandy Springs, Kennesaw, or Alpharetta. LOVE these areas but are more catered to families n young couples...please avoid recommending Dallas areas similiar to these... THKS!

Not from Dallas, but from what I've been told, the suburbs of Lancaster, DeSoto, Cedar Hill, and Duncanville are probably what you're looking for. They're middle class with large black populations, but I couldn't tell you what they offer in the way of nightlife.

Those suburbs that were mentioned above are just that.......suburbs. There would be very little nightlife in those places. Here's a link to a really nice jazz club just a few blocks south of Downtown Dallas: Welcome to Brooklyn...A Jazzy Place. This website might also provide some helpful information for you: http://www.visitblackdallas.com/.

Well the OP referenced places like Lithonia and Cascade, and South Dallas suburbs come closest to those areas. The nightlife may night be bustling, but I'm pretty sure there's some lounges or bars in those areas where middle class blacks congregate.

She said she wanted to avoid areas that were family or couples oriented. Those places are middle class bedroom communities generally populated by families. There might be some private clubs in those suburbs, but all or most of them are in dry areas.

True. I just looked where she said that she wanted to avoid a Sandy Springs/Alpharetta type suburb (Plano/Addison), and when she said "middle class black", the Best Southwest region was the first to come to mind. Because Dallas is certainly no Atlanta when it comes to having a huge number of options for black communities.

So the OP might have to figure out what's more important to her.

The southern burbs of Dallas have the most middle class blacks but since the OP said he wants to avoid area's with young families I would not suggest any suburb to him/her. If he is looking for apartment/townhouse I would suggest Uptown or Knox Henderson. Addison should also be added to the list. There are very few clubs if any in the burbs and the vast majority of them are made up of young families. Moving near downtown would be the best bet for a single person wanting a nightlife.
