Another Teacher Question (Dallas, Plano: find a job, schools, living in)

My wife is a Special Ed teacher with a Masters and 15 years of experience...If she applies to Dallas ISD can she control where in Dallas or what schools she can consider? She's not looking to drive 45 minutes and we'll be living in North Dallas / Plano.

She can't control what schools have what positions open, but nothing says she has to accept a position at a school that is far away.

But I wouldn't turn down any school that offered right now.

I guess what I meant is can she specify the school in her application given a position is available. Luckily as a SpEd she's in pretty high demand wherever she looks.

the likely hood of her being able to select her school is not likely...will there be an opening in Special Educ. possibly and more likely than in regular educ.; however, a lot of times the openings many of the districts have in special ed. right now are job specific and that could narrow down the opportunities for some in the special educ. area I have a friend that looked and non of the districts were hiring for the type of special educ. she was hoping to get a job in. She said there were a lot of jobs in the special need areas however.

times are tuff in all subject areas in the metroplex area when it comes to teaching jobs
many of the districts are making cuts...now if your wife has any diag background she quite possibly could find a job easily in this area as they are always looking for diags...again, though in most schools these types of positions are traveling positions vs. school specific

I wish your wife all the best. You are absolutely right in that special educ. will be her best friend in acquiring a job. It just may require her to drive or go to a school that isn't ideal. She might fare well to take whatever she can get and then make her way to what she really wants after gaining the experience in the district. Often this is the way it works as well in special educ. and I've heard in the Dallas school system.

You apply to the district, then email principals at schools with openings.
