Can all Dallasites please tell me what to expect from the wind in Dallas??? Is it always windy? Is it just hot wind in the summer? Is there a windy "season" I have never lived anywhere without mountains

Wind is common here, but it comes more in gusts than having many steady windy days. IME the Dallas area isn't as windy as other places in the US.

I have to agree that the wind isn't really a bigger issue here than anywhere else. I too thoght it would be "bad" when I got here, but it hasn't been noticeable. Maybe that is because of the urban environment, the trees, etc? I get the feeling the windy areas of Texas are out west more and in rural areas.

The Dallas area is very windy when compared to average (rated windier than Chicago, the windy city). I always found it quite fatiguing and it is one of the negative weather aspects of the area.

Yes and when it needs to be windy in the heat of the summer, it's still and muggy. Ugh!!

I am from the southeast and I DO think it is windy here. Mainly in winter/early spring. I do remember complaining a lot our first year how about how windy it always is. We do move all the patio furniture together when it is going to be really gusty because they have swooped by our windows on more than one occasion.

I agree that Dallas is a windy area--
it gets coastal winds and winds off the plains and the great lakes
it is one of the worst regions for air-born allergens because of its location

It's really windy downtown. Don't bother trying to carry an umbrella downtown if it's raining. The wind will break it.

Chicago is called the windy city but it refers to the politicians rather than the climate.

Looks like the Aluetian Islands are the spot for wind turbines.
