Not in the bag yet, but it looks like it has a good chance.

Even though Downtown Dallas isnt in its glory days, it is nice that city leaders recognize that and are trying hard to build it back up. Dallas could end up with one of the better rail systems in the US when this is said and done!

I'm not for the route which would take the new downtown line to the convention center hotel - I am for running it underneath Commerce in the traditional heart of downtown. The remaining empty buildings would then fill up - and there's not much opportunity for development along Young Street. The convention center already has a DART station and walking to Commerce would be 2 blocks with a subway escalator aimed south to the hotel. Those two blocks and the third one to Commerce are development opportunities.

matt is right. they need to focus on the high office vacancy rate. Expanding the subway will not solve the problem in filling the office vacancy rates. They already have a subway at CityPlace which looks like a ghost town most of the time. The tax dollars should really be spent on something else other than trying to look "cool" so to speak.

Not trying to hate on Dallas. it just seems that the priorities aren't straight.

The subway is needed (and indeed part of the 'deal' made years ago) because the new orange and green lines are opening up and all lines converge in Downtown Dallas.

They are trying to fix the problem. This is just one piece of the puzzle. They are doing other things on top of it.

I like the idea. I see what the Downtown Steering Commitee is attempting to accomplish. It has EVERYTHING to do with filling vacant space by giving workers, residents and visitors to DTD greater connectability to different districts. Arts, Main Street, Deep Ellum, West End, Farmer's Market etc... and hopefully creation of more Transit-Oriented Developments

So i can avoid hijacking the thread, can you pm me what else they are doing to fix the problem? I know they're doing the deck park and loft conversion but as far as solid office vacancy rates, i'm interested to know what they're doing exactly?
