My husband and I are newlyweds and are looking for a starter home in a very safe, family-oriented neighborhood. I work in downtown Dallas and he works in Plano. We were really interested in Lakewood, but could not find a decent home in our price range. We don't need anything big- just 2 bed/2 bath but have been running into cute houses in sketchy areas. We've recently started looking in Addison, Carrollton, and south Plano as well. What are some good neighborhoods where we can find a house in the $160-$210 range?

Have you tried Pitman Creek? It sounds like a strong location for what you're looking for. Most of the homes in the "Pitman Creek Estates" area will be out of the price range, but there are a few under 200k in the Pitman Creek section. Geographically, it's located very close to George Bush and 75 on the SE corner of 15th and Custer in Plano back behind Pitman Creek estates.

Also, are you against living in Richardson? Richardson Heights is an area with a lot of charm and history where young couples are moving in more and more. It's located mainly between Belt Line and Arapaho on the West side of 75. As far as price range, it would be a good fit. (130k to around 300k.)

You're right about Lakewood-that might be a better move up neighborhood than one to get your feet wet with to start out.
