I choose to not lock in my rate with TXU because I did not want to pay the $250 early termination charge if I were to switch. On my last bill they charged 20 cent a kwh which is twice what I normally pay. I had a 300 percent increase from my last bill. TXU is making a killing this summer and there is not a whole lot you can do about it. Either you pay it or they disconnect you. I have rates as high as 24 cent a kwh. Sounds like they have taken a page out of the oil companies playbook.

Why not switch? Surely there are other companies with lower rates.

If you check the rates you will find that they are all within 1 cent of each other. It appears that whatever rate TXU sets the others fall in line. I made a mistake by not locking into a rate due to fear of being saddled with a early cancellation fee. I really don't have a beef with the price increase but no one can explain to me the huge increase in kilowatts.

I checked for my area and the lowest price is 13.4 cents/kwh and the highest 23 cents/kwh. What rates are you seeing for your area?
