Sorry to start another thread...

We are going to Dallas this weekend to view all of our options. We have a dog... and would love a yard. Perhaps a townhome/condo for rent in the downtown Dallas area?

Price range around $1500-$1800/month....

Is this even possible or, will it be more like $2500+?

Thanks for any input. Figured it'd be worth seeking advice. We have some nice looking apartments on our list too

Yes! Definitely possible. Check the Bryan Place neighborhood (a few blocks east of downtown, just east of 75/Central Expressway.) About 2-4 miles north of downtown (straight shot up 75), check Knox-Henderson neighborhoods (75205 & 75206) as well as the M Streets area (75206).

You should be able to find a place for $2000 or less, and possibly $1500 in some areas, just depending on size/location/condition.

Bryan Place is a mix of 3-4 storytownhomes and zero lot line single family homes. Great big dog park in the neighborhood (Exall Park).

Knox is condos and townhomes. Katy Trail runs through the neighborhood and is great for dogwalking, jogging, biking, blading, etc.

Henderson is townhomes and single family homes.

M Streets is single family homes and duplexes (side-by-side or up/down, both with shared yard).

Knox, Henderson and M Streets might make that Ft. Worth commute pretty bad though.

Ah yes...

how bad is the commute looking for her realistically speaking? Downtown Dallas to Downtown Ft Worth.... as opposed to the areas mentioned.

Turtle, again, with GREAT advice!

You might be better off looking in North Oak Cliff in Kessler Park, Stevens Park, Winnetka Heights areas - it's much easier to get onto I-30 going west off Hampton or Sylvan and totally avoid the mixmaster.

why don't you try to rent in FTW--there are many good facets to living there--my daughter and I went to lunch today in Sundance Sq and she remarked on how much she enjoyed FTW vs Dallas--
not that she lives in either area--but she had shopped, eaten, partied in Dallas as well as FTW in the past...

I work in Plano... it is an hour (sometimes more) in traffic commute from Fort Worth currently... we decided on Dallas as the "middle point" (I know it's not really a middle point...) but it suits me nicely and she's willing to make the sacrifice. Her commute will be roughly an hour depending on what part of Dallas... my commute will be 20-40 minutes depending on what part of Dallas.

I know there's real midpoint cities like Irving or whatever... but we have chosen Dallas because we're both 23.. and would like to live a more urban lifestyle and a lot of our friends live in Dallas downtown area.

Sorry.. this has been explained like 3 different times in separate threads started by me haha

frankly I would be trying to find a job that would let ONE of you move closer...
not an easy thing to do in this economy but that commute would be ugly--either one's...

Well, right now I'm going from Ft Worth to Plano...

so it's a huge improvement for me moving to Dallas . Cuts my commute in half, maybe even more

And yes in this economy, that won't be happening. Not anytime soon anyway. Plus, she really enjoys her job in Ft Worth.
