Do you have Oncor? I just saw a report on the news about them not reading the meters correctly when changing to the new digital meters, which has resulted in some bills being ridiculously high.

I just saw that report on Fox about Oncor as well. At least they have been reimbursing people.

Do you have electric heat? Do you have a lot of cubic feet? Yes = a high electric bill.

You should check your rate per KiloWattHour and your KiloWatt usage (and long term usage history). A moderate usage increase at .16c / KWH will add up fast. You may not even notice that same usage increase at .09c / KWH.

Make sure you fight it! Those that have fought are getting refunded. If you have been switched to the smart meter you really have a case. They made mistakes on the readings when they took out the old meters. It resulted in higher bills!

I have the same company and mine was $450 for a small house where I haven't even had the heat on in 3 weeks. Some kind of deal, eh?

Not to hijack, but do you know how people have gone about fighting this? I received a ridiculous bill ($300 for my 600 sq. ft. apartment?!) back in September. They reread the meter and claimed nothing was wrong, so I sucked it up and paid, knowing full well that it was impossible...
