Default Do you like Dallas or Houston

I currently live in Houston, and have been offered a job in Dallas. I've been to Dallas many times, but mostly just to change planes at DFW. I'd like to hear from anyone that has lived in both cities, and what their opinion is between the two.

I'm not trying to start the whole "my city is better than yours" thing, I'd just like to hear from people that have lived in both cities, which one they liked better, and why.

But Jim, that's how all of these threads start out. Since I have not lived in both cities (actually neither, as I live in the DFW area but not Dallas), I cannot comment so I'll graciously bow out.

I will say this; both Houston and Dallas are great cities.

Is there really a huge Dallas-Houston rivalry, or is it just amongst city-data types?

I've only lived here since 2003. I have noticed all the huge Dallas-Houston fight threads since I joined the board, so I asked a couple of friends of mine who've lived here all their lives if people from Dallas dislike Houston or feel superior, and they gave me the "what have you been smoking?" look and said "not at all!"

Both cities have their advantages and differences... and yes, there is a sense of competition.

And no, I've never lived in Houston.

I have lived in Houston on 2 separate occasions, both for 6 months at a time. Once in Summer/Fall of 1993, on Voss near Westheimer. The second time was the Fall/Winter of 2001/2002 and it was just off Dairy Ashford at Memorial.

There's two things about Houston that I loved:
- the down to earth nature of the people
- the great ethnic restaurants scattered everywhere.

Ther's two things about Houston that I did not like a lot:
- the traffic... never ending and always bad, at all hours
- the lack of zoning... strip malls everywhere and junk yards next to high rises next to auto dealers.

All of my Dallas living, for 12 years, has been inside Loop 12... in Greenville/M-streets and White Rock Lake area.

There's two things about Dallas that I love:
- it's relatively easy to get around and traffic is not that bad in off-hours. People here tend to live and work in their own areas, whereas in Houston, you have this MASSIVE influx to the center and outflow at the end of the day.
- zoning... and all the blight it keeps away, relative to a city with no zoning.

There's 2 things about Dallas I do not like:
- much more pretentiousness, and posing people, here than Houston
- disfunctional city govt compared to the greater Houston model.

There's been enough pro/con threads on Dallas and Houston, Houston and Austin, San Antonio and Houston, Dallas and San Antonio, etc, ad infinitum, on this board in the past!! LOL!! That's why you caught a little heat in the first few posts.
Use the search feature at the top and type in your request and you'll see all the responses from previous rival threads! Hope that helps.
