Dallas never has & never will be on the same playing field with those 1st tier world gamma cities. Dallas is comparable to cities like Houston & Atlanta. Nothing more nothing less.

You're living a pipe dream man.

It just hit me. The football team called the COWBOYS is perhaps why people from other states think Texas is just a cowboy-ridden state. I think they should change the name of the team to rid the country of confusion. Why did they choose that name anyway? No need to respond...I'll look it up online.

One of the first attempts to define, categorize, and rank global cities was made in 1998 by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network (GaWC) based at the geography department of Loughborough University, United Kingdom. The roster was outlined in the GaWC Research Bulletin 5 and ranked cities based on their provision of "advanced producer services" such as accountancy, advertising, finance, and law.[5] The GaWC inventory identifies three levels of global cities and several sub-ranks. This roster generally denotes cities in which there are offices of certain multinational corporations providing financial and consulting services rather than denoting other cultural, political, and economic centres.

The 2004 rankings acknowledged several new indicators while continuing to rank city economics more heavily than political or cultural factors. The 2008 roster, similar to the 1998 version is sorted into categories of "Alpha" world cities (with four sub-categories), "Beta" world cities (three sub-categories), "Gamma" world cities (three sub-categories), and cities with "High sufficiency" or "Sufficiency" world city presence.

Global city - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Beta World Cities +:

* Washington, Melbourne, Johannesburg, Atlanta, Barcelona, San Francisco, Manila, Bogotá, Tel Aviv, New Delhi, Dubai, Bucharest

Beta World Cities:

* Oslo, Berlin, Helsinki, Geneva, Copenhagen, Riyadh, Hamburg, Cairo, Luxembourg, Bangalore, Dallas, Kuwait City, Boston

Beta World Cities –:

* Munich, Jeddah, Miami, Lima, Kiev, Houston, Guangzhou, Beirut, Karachi, Düsseldorf, Sofia, Montevideo, Nicosia, Rio de Janeiro, Ho Chi Minh City

I dont think that is why.

Most of the people who associate Dallas with Texas have never been to Texas (or even the US) at all. Its just the most popular city name of the Texas cities.

Nothing more, nothing less.

I completely agree.

I love Dallas, but Im real about it. Dallas is not Paris, its not New York, its not LA, its Dallas.

Houston, Atlanta, and Philly would be better comparisons.

I am speaking of matters in regards to fashion. Look, I will agree with you that, in regards to quality of service, the city of Dallas is falling back to the level of Houston because it no longer is setting the scale or standards like it once did while, today, it is thought of as more of a place that is upscale.
I really don't have an opinion about Atlanta.
See, I don't think you get it. You are so certain of yourself that you won't allow yourself to think outside of the box.
What doesn't help is how this forum doesn't allow for contrastings which can lead to heated exchanges from time to time. Everyone is expected to understand everything real time. If someone doesn't immediately understand something that is radical, it is considered an opinion made by a troll. Yet, you can't really compare without allowing for the contrastings.
We learn to do this type of comparing and contrasting in college. There are many things similar in Houston and Dallas which can be compared; likewise, there are many things different between the two cities which can be contrasted. Whether or not they are equal in stature has nothing to do with it.
Also, in college we aren't trained to give our opinion because such is considered inefficient and a weak argument.
Example: Dallas is just better than Houston (no reason to say it is my opinon).
Besides, the city of Dallas is better than Houston.

When other southern states were having to dig and claw their way back out of the ruins of the Civil War, Texas was fortunate in that it could turn to gathering together wild beef (longhorns) and moving it north to slaughter houses. Eventually, fencing was invented to cut off the cattle trail and this lead to battles between the ranches and the trail blazers. For some reason, we think of a "cowboy" as someone who works as a ranchhand when, in actuality, that person is a tamed trailhand.

Yet, Dallas was at one time thought of as similar to cities like New York City and Paris. Go back and look it up in some of those encyclopedias. If you are young, then you will have a difficult time understanding this. Dallas at one time had a garment industry backed by fashion designers. As women's fashion was the crown jewel, men's fashion was the runner up.
This is part of the reason the city of Dallas still has the perception of having some of the most beautiful women in the world. First off, the women in Dallas dressed up better because, well, the city was Dallas after all and it had more resources for them to do so.
The people in Dallas are proud of their city's designation of being more "upscale" than other places. Yet, my argument is that Dallas was once better off as it helped set the standard of what was once considered upscale.
The city no longer does this as it once did. As a result, it is falling back to the level of Houston.

Dallas' fashion, if you wanna call it that stemmed from having Neiman Marcus aka "Needless Markup".

Downtown Houston had the first Foley's department store back in 1900. It was bought out by Macy's a few years back just like the rest of the Foley's stores were. Houston also had Texas' first upscale Galleria.

Dallas IS NOT & WAS NEVER on the level of NYC, Paris, & London when it comes to fashion.
