I was wondering if anyone can give me a general view of South Dallas. I am supposed to stay in the area near Fair Park for work. Just looking for some feedback. Thanks

You might want to check out an area not close to Fair Park to live. The areas around (to the South of) Fair Park are very dangerous. There are other areas not to far away that I would look at (Lakewood, Uptown, the Southern Suburbs). There are also some places to the North of Fair Park that are gentrifying. But I wouldnt live too close to Fair Park.

That area can be a little rough. I dont know of any hotels in that area either. You say your "staying". To me that means your staying in a hotel. But I know some less educated people sometimes use the word "stay" to mean where you live.

I've been going to Fair Park for over 50 years and never had a single problem. Oh maybe when I was ten years old some kid tried to get me to give him my change and slapped my pocket to see if I had any. But generally, the north side of the area is perfectly fine whereas the area 'behind' Fair Park (Hatcher, Oakland Cemetery, Malcolm X) is considered higher crime. Personally I never have 'discomfort' visiting along MLK or South Boulevard/Park Row but that area freaks out a lot of white suburbanites.

Unless you "blend" in and look like a a really poor homeless black guy you will most likely be harassed by the people in that area. Especially the southern end of fair park. I used to go to meridian room for dinner and drinks many times and never had a problem but that still doesnt mean its a nice part of town.

I would not trust a hotel in the I-30 corridor between downtown going east to Mesquite. Stay Downtown or north along 75 Central. There are affordable hotels and it is only a 5-10 minute drive to Fair Park area. If you are staying with a friend, some areas around Fair Park are perfectly fine (includig the Fair grounds) and others are pretty darn sketchy/ unsafe. You'll need to be more specific.

This place is near Fair Park:
Bed and Breakfasts in Dallas Texas-The Corinthian

Or stay in one of the downtown hotels: Magnolia, Indigo, etc.

Do you have a address or street name. (The near FairPark) statement could be really good or really bad depending on the address.
