Any suggestions? I will probably have a roommate and want to be in a fun area with people my age--I am willing to commute if I can find somewhere that's within cab distance to nightlife.

What is your budget like? Do you want to live in an apartment or a house? If you can afford it, a great place to live is at La Villita, located in Las Colinas. You may also want to check out the Canal Side Lofts, also located in Las Colinas.

I would say max I'd be willing to pay was $1,000/person in a two bedroom place, ideally I would like to find something cheaper- but don't know what going rent rates are in Dallas...Moving from Chicago where I was paying close to $900 for a small studio.

Uptown. It's a 20-25 min reverse commute to Irving. That's where all te action & fun is for a young professional. $1k each should give you a ton of apartment options to choose from. You would be walking distance from tons of bars/ restaurants/ shopping, and a short cab ride or trolley ride from the rest of the Downtown/ Uptown/ Knox-Henderson nightlife.

As TC80 says, Uptown is the happening place. You can well afford it with your budget. Unless you want something quieter then go with the Las Colinas, you'll be near the Thursday after 5 social scene but further away from the happening scene.
