I got an advertisement in the mail to sign for "Clear" Internet service . I heard of this service before but it wasnt available in my area until now.
"Its supposedly 4X faster than 3G"

$30/ month for High Speed beats paying Verizon $85/month but I first wanted to see if anyone else heard good/bad reports about this service.

I did a trial and even though I was supposedly 400 yards from a tower, the speeds were very slow and never made it to 3kbps. A few times I was lucky and got around 2.4. Mostly it was 1.3 and slower. Tech support couldn't explain why my speeds were so slow. Needless to say I sent it back. It's unfortunate too because I really wanted to get rid of the landline which we only use for DSL.

clear blows if you USE your internet

if you just browse the web from time to time and check email of if you are just coming off of AOL clear might be sweet

if you have had any other high speed internet besides maybe charter cable then clear sucks and stay away get something else

I've had Clear internet for a few months now and I can agree with the other posters on here that it's not worth it at all. I supposedly live within 1.5 miles from a tower but I get horrible coverage, it's even worse when it's cloudy or raining outside. I'll probably give back my stuff to them soon. It's unfortunate because I live in Irving, and there shouldn't be any excuse to not have good internet coverage in the area. So far, no one can explain to me why I don't get good coverage, so it's time to say good-bye to CLEAR.

We're going to move into an investment property for a couple of months while our primary home is getting some renovations and don't want to activate the VIOs that's already installed there to save money (quoted $144 for a month w/Verizon for temp service). Thinking about getting Clear and just watching Hulu for TV shows.

This thread is old so I am wondering if anyone has recent experience with CLEAR?

As mentioned earlier by other posters, I'd stay away from CLEAR. They've been a dissapointment to myself and others around the DFW area. It's probably best to stick with DSL or another wireless internet provider.

I use Clear (on-the-go) for browsing and some streaming (not heavy) and it works great for me. Even in places that aren't close to towers, it is pretty fast. I work in Uptown and it's extremely fast in that area. I also took a trip to north Houston over 4th of July weekend, and it was just as fast.

If you're download/upload heavy, I'll have to agree that it would be best to stick with broadband/DSL/etc. Otherwise, Clear is a nice alternative.

I posted earlier in this thread but I need to comment again. I tried to watch Hulu when I did the trial run of Clear and it was no bueno.

I watch Hulu literally on a daily basis, and it's rare that I have issues.

That may be so. I was just talking about how Clear worked for Hulu in my apartment. I think Clear is hit or miss right now. Hopefully in a few years it will be more stable in more places. I like the idea of it. Just not the execution for my personal uses.
