I used to live in Dallas years ago, and mistakenly, I moved away thinking that I could find better job opportunities elsewhere. I should have understood that being happy was more important than a career. Since that time, I worked in the eastern US and back in my native Canada. I found the hour longer, I did not make as many friends and I found the people in both Toronto and New York to be cold. So, here I am hoping to get back to Dallas (hopefully, I am not just trying to recreate the old days, but regardless, the restaurants are more affordable). The problem is really two-fold: a) the economy; and b) I need a visa, which in better times was easier to get. So, I guess my questions are: how is the economy in Dallas now and is it expected to pick up; and more specifically, what it is like for IP attorneys? Thanks in advance.

Honestly, the economy does not seem that great in terms of finding a new job, especially high level jobs such as the one you described.

At least the people in Dallas are really friendly. Try the criminal justice field or paralegal openings.

Honestly, even if you are licensed to practice in the U.S. it is really difficult to get a job in the legal field. There are thousands of law grads from 2006-present who are unemployed and legal to work here.
