Talking Relocation to Dayton... my 3 kids happen to be pit bulls, what to expect? laws?

Hiya everyone,

Seriously thinking of moving closer to family. Going on the 9th of December to see 3 houses/farms. There's one on the outskirts of Dayton, 5/10 miles South of Drexel. Does anyone know what to expect with 3 sweet Pibbles? All are nuetered/fixed and we are expecting to be out in the country w/ a 20-30 min. max commute to center of Dayton.

I'm a web developer and hubby is a sign maker / motorcycle airbrush artist. (Not that that part matters any)

We currently live on Long Island and have to make 4K a month to live an hour away from our jobs in a 1 bedroom apartment. We live in the eastern part of Suffolk County (very country/woodsy) So this move is serious. We're just workin to pay bills, and that's not a life. (Not that this part matters either)

My concern is that people will hate my dogs and cause grief? Are Ohio people really hell bent on wiping out pit bulls? I'm thinking as long as I fence the entire property I'll be OK and people will leave me alone.

Anyone know more info??

I am not sure about the pitbulls. I guess it would depend on the people, but I would think people would worry about them in a majority of the country just because of their tendancies. Not saying that your dogs are bad dogs, just the breed is not know for being a "safe" dog. But seriously, don't worry about it, especially if you plan on living out in the country.

Also, you can live far out in the country and be in Dayton well under an hour. Rush hour can be tricky, but probaly nothing comparied to LI. I moved here from Philly, it is not bad at all.

Now I noticed you talking about 4k a month to live in a one bedroom apartment. That will get you a nice new home if you want to here in the Dayton Metro area.

If you need anymore detailed questions answer, just ask. So if you are serious on moving to Dayton, welcome to the area! It is a very nice place to live.

Are the houses/farms in the township or where? If you are in a township (instead of a municipality) you are probably alright, however I would check with the township clerk or someone from the board of trustees if it is something you are concerned about.

I think pit bulls are considered a dangerous breed in Ohio and I've heard that your homeowners insurance will be more expensive, or something to that effect. Pit bull owners seem to want to defend their dogs but it seems articles about dog attacks pop up in newspapers and pit bulls are often mentioned. I think they are an aggresive breed and believe anyone should be very cautious around them. Why not about five acres in the country and a very large fence---then you won't have to worry about neighbors causing grief as you are suggesting. I personally would not want you for a neighbor in spite of any guarantees you would offer. Why not poodles?

In case anyone else is curious about pit bull ownership, most landlords in Fairborn don't enforce their pet policies and many people with pitbulls end up living there.
