Default Halloween in Dayton

I know, I know. It's a little soon for this topic. But...

My 5 year old daughter just loves Halloween!! (actually my whole family does). We've seen the signs for Halloween City across from The Greene and I've seen Halloween costumes popping up in stores, etc. So, we've started to get excited.

Since we're new to the area, I was wondering what all the fun, 'must-see!', 'must-do!' Halloween things we're in Dayton.

I've heard that Dayton is big on Halloween. True??

The Oregon District is well known for its adult Halloween party.

Check into the kid's Halloween at Kings Island.

Almost no one does trick or treating in my Dayton neighborhood. Literally, six people at the door would be a big night. The kids go to friend's or relative's in the 'burbs and trick or treat with their kids.

An interesting thing for Halloween is to go check out downtown Fairborn, they have a giant halloween store there with live haunted "scenes" (for example a fake jailhouse electric chair scene). Another tradition is the Northmont JayCees haunted house, that was always fun. Sometimes we would do both on the same weekend (do downtown fairborn during the day and then do the haunted house later that night).

Default My favorite holiday too.

Mad River/Riverside Jaycees has a haunted house at Springfield and Harshman. They hold a matinee where the lights are on and the kids "trick or treat" thru the house. The :"actors" show the kids how all the special effects work You can get $1 off by bringing a can good. All proceeds from that day go to charity, and all the cangoods go to the local food banks.

SLCB, as the above posters have already said, the level of Hallowen enthusiasm varies greatly. Most, if not all, local communities have official "Trick-or-Treating" times usually between 6-8 pm or so.
