Hi I have been reading a lot on this thread and have been getting a fair idea of the opinions of Dayton. Despite this (or often because of) I am actually really excited about the possibilities in Dayton, and I am coming to check it out.

I am looking a very inexpensive homes that I can pay cash for. I want to live very close to the city. I also want to be safe from bodily harm, but really don't mind living in remerging neighborhoods. This is what is exciting to me. I want to live in a place where people are working together to make something better. (I am not afraid of poor people, or diversity).

I really like the things I see northwest of the city. (Possibly naively as I have not been there yet). I also want to check out other possibilities that are near downtown.

So- any tips? Cheap places to stay while I visit? Neighborhood tours (self guided or otherwise?) Can't miss stuff? Good people to connect with while I am there? Community groups, volunteer opportunities to be aware of?

Thanks for your help!
